Abstract: This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of disinformation in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, utilizing a comparative perspective. After presenting the normative and academic context, the chapter offers a comprehensive review of the measures taken to combat disinformation and evaluates the impact of political misinformation on electoral processes, as well as on the credibility and trustworthiness of the media. Additionally, the role of fact-checking platforms is examined, highlighting both common aspects and significant differences. In conclusion, the comparative analysis of initiatives and projects aimed at combating disinformation in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America reveals two main aspects: there is a growing lack of trust in the information provided by both traditional media and social networks, and second, there is a significant predominance of publicly-driven initiatives compared to private ones.
